The Christchurch and Burton Karate Club

The two 4th Dan instructors, Sensei Debby and Sensei Paul, have over 40 years of Goju Ryu Karate training between them. They can also lay claim to success at national and international competitions.

This level of experience and their commitment to training to a high standard has led to the club gaining a justified reputation as a friendly martial arts centre of excellence for Goju Ryu Karate. A place where the whole family can train in safety and with confidence.

The Christchurch and Burton club has been running since 1993 and over the years many of our students have gone on to reach black belt and compete themselves.

With separate classes for both children (Wed 6:30–8:00pm) and adults (Wed 8:00–10:00pm), we welcome students of all levels – from complete beginners upwards.

You and your children are welcome to come along on a Wednesday evening and either watch or even join in. We have several young children below the age of eight, and more than a few adults that won't see a 34" waist line again (but we suggest you don´t tell them to their face as you might be surprised at just how fast and fit they have become after a few months of training with us).

Burton Karate Club is a member of the EGKA. The EGKA is a non profit making organisation devoted to teaching traditional Goju Ryu karate to the highest standards. It is also a founder member of the International Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate–do Federation (IOGKF).

The EGKA was formed in 1979 and has many dojos throughout England. In addition arranging regular dojo training classes, the EGKA conducts seminars and special training courses for all students as well as a continious training program for advanced students and instructors.

Sensei Ernie Molyneux 8th Dan is the Chief Instructor of the EGKA, which is governed by the IOGKF and led by Master Morio Higaonna 10th Dan.

If you would like to find out more about Sensei Morio Higaonna and the history of Goju Ryu Karate, visit the EGKA and the IOGKF websites.
